One year ago today, baby Henry was airlifted by the Service at only two days old. He required 17 minutes of CPR at birth to stabilise his heart rate and breathing. Tests revealed that Henry had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia and a coarctation of the aorta. His chances of survival dropped significantly and he needed an urgent transfer from John Hunter Hospital to the specialist facilities and staff of Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney. At Westmead, baby Henry underwent two major operations including an 8-hour open heart surgery and finally, after three months of specialist care, he went home for the first time. One year later, were pleased to welcome Henry, along with parents Nick and Michelle and big sister Freya, to our Belmont base. The Service is inviting expressions of interest from experienced business and community leaders to join these committees. Based on the current membership profile, applicants who reside within the following areas will be highly regarded:- Northern Regional Advisory Committee: Byron Bay NSW or surrounding area.- New England North West Regional Advisory Committee: Narrabri, Wee Waa or Moree NSW or surrounding area.The purpose of the Regional Advisory Committees is to advise and assist the Board and Senior Management Team of the Service on matters relevant to the local region. The Committees help to ensure the Service’s strategic direction and partnerships continue to serve the community’s best interests. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service’s passionate ‘red shirt’ volunteers are proudly supported by mining services provider Thiess. Their financial support helps the Service attract new volunteers and deliver a volunteer conference, aimed at developing and recognising volunteering excellence. Thiess is acutely aware of the valuable contribution the volunteer support groups make to the region and acknowledge that volunteers are the backbone of any not-for-profit organisation.Thank you Thiess!

It’s National Volunteer Week and we want to say a big thank you to our Red Shirts!Our dedicated volunteers spend their time at local events, shopping centres, op shops, cooking up a storm at sporting grounds and hardware stores, running raffles, collecting donation tins, and providing their professional expertise and time. There’s #SomethingforEveryone to do for the Service, and we appreciate every person who gives their time to help us save lives 🚁
