I’m selling an original Chevy Chevelle SS (real SS, verified numbers) with a 396 cubic inch original correct engine, numbers matching, and a 4 speed Muncie transmission. The car has 34,287 miles on it. It was on the road about 10-15 years from 1967 till the late 70s maybe into early 80s. I’m asking $44,500.

My dad owned this car before I was born in the late 70s and has kept it inside the garage the whole time. The original color was turquoise. My dad owned a auto body shop and had it painted maroon as it is now. He also repainted the interior black instead of the original turquoise. The restoration was 30 years ago in 1994, but my dad never finished putting it back together. It has been kept inside ever since it was restored and still in pieces waiting to be reassembled. We had too many projects, and he was never able to finish this one before he passed away a few years ago. I planned to finish the car myself, but I already have two full restorations ahead of this one to finish. It will be several years before I can get to it, so I might let it go to someone that can get it back on the road sooner.

He said he bought “everything” that he thought was needed to be replaced with new parts. At the bottom of the listing, I have identified a few parts I haven’t found yet and a few that will need to be purchased to finish the build. Back when he bought the new parts, several parts like the three-piece grill, chrome trim, emblems, taillight bezels, and other various parts were original GM parts for optimal fitment. The exhaust and mufflers are new and were installed right after installing the engine, they haven’t bee used yet.

Most of the chrome, bumpers, door handles, bezels, knobs, trim pieces, or anything chrome is new (about 30 years ago, but never used yet.) He had the seats reupholstered, has new carpet, door panels, new headliner, new dash bezels, knobs, window cranks, package tray, trunk separator, trunk matt, weatherstrip, rear ash trays, arm rest pads, and about any fiddly bit interior piece you can think of.

All of the glass was installed new after it was painted. I have new original factory fit correct wiring harnesses. We kept the old wiring harness as well. I have both the original and a new heater control switch assembly with bezel. I also have new heater control cables. The emblems are all new for the exterior and interior. The door and interior rearview mirrors are new. Also, the lenses for the exterior and interior lights are all new. I have new clutch, gas, brake, and emergency brake pedal pads. There is a new correct for 396 fuel line kit. The glove box lid bezel and Super Sport emblem are new as well.

I have new sun visors, new sun visor brackets and new hardware. I also kept the original sun visors as the headliner kit comes with fabric to recover the original if desired. I’d just use the new ones that are already covered though. The headliner kit also comes with new fabric for the sail panels. The sail panels still have the old fabric on them currently. The carpet is in pretty good condition, but I have new carpet in the box still, so it might as well be replaced.

This is the original engine with correct casting for 1967 as well as the casting on the intake manifold is correct for the year of Chevelle with the casting number 3885069 rectangular port open plenum used on all high performance 1966, 1967, and 1968 L78 396 375 HP engines. He rebuilt the engine, so it has no miles on it yet. The intake and valve covers were never installed and just laying on top of the engine. The valve covers are new, but need to be polished. The intake manifold is an original Chevy “Winters” aluminum intake. He did install the engine and transmission, but never finished getting it to the point of starting it up.

The new radiator he bought was for a big block Chevelle with air conditioning. This car does not have A/C, but the A/C radiator is larger, therefore better at cooling and why he bought it.

I have two sets of bucket seat backs. They all look to be in good condition, but the best two can be used and the others kept as spares.

The steering column is a tilt column. The original kick panels are still turquoise. They can be sprayed black or can be purchased new already black.

There are too many new parts to list, but I listed the major parts I could think of. Please review the pictures of parts. If you have any questions on any particular parts or need to see a closer picture of something, let me know.

Just recently, two totes were stacked next to the car with some 3-5lb hand weights on top of them. The bottom tote buckled and the weights scratched the driver’s side door. The door will have to be repainted. The rest of the paint and body are in extremely great condition. The body is very straight with no signs of rust anywhere. The sides are very straight unlike a lot of restorations. The paint is show-car condition except for the recently damaged door.

The new rear bumper was installed, but the new front bumper is still wrapped with newspapers. I believe they are the original bumpers that were sent to a company to be re-chromed. He used to do that since the original bumpers fit better than aftermarket ones. The front bumper is still wrapped in papers, so I didn’t remove it for the picture. The bumper brackets, hood latch, and other cowl metal pieces were all repainted with the restoration. The alternator brackets are also repainted.

There are a few parts that I haven’t found yet that I think I will with another day or two of looking in the shop:
1. Carburetor (I likely have it as he had about 15-20 original carburetors for old Chevys laying around the shops. I just need to spend some time checking the numbers on each to find the right one. It will likely need a carburetor rebuild kit.)
2. Distributor (I am sure I have the right one around one of the shops, but I need to find it.)
3. Water Neck that bolts to the intake manifold for the radiator hose. (Many laying around, just need to identify the correct one.)
4. Radiator Fan (Again, several original old Chevy fans laying around, but need to identify the correct one. I should have one that’s correct.)
5. Center caps for rally wheels. (Found 1, but I am almost certain he has a full new set of 4 somewhere. Looking for them.)
6. Alternator – I do have several originals for this era of Chevy. I will find one.

Parts I have identified that haven’t been purchased yet that will need to be:
1. Plug wires
2. Radiator hoses
3. Fluids – oil, coolant
4. Headlight bulbs
5. Chrome rings that go around headlight bulbs (available from Classic Industries or any other restoration parts place that handles Chevelle parts.)
6. Air cleaner
7. Oil filter, air filter

There are a couple of ways to prove this is an original SS:
1. The first digits of the VIN are 13817 which means it is a two door hard top sport coupe SS396 body style code followed by another 7 for 1967, then a K for Kansas City, MO. For Reference: https://chevellestuff.net/1967/vin.htm
2. The body tag line 2 has the fisher body style number as 13817 for (SS396 2-door sport coupe)

The body tag has the following info:
Line 1:
09A (Build date of the first week of September)
2335 (Job number 2335)
Line 2:
67 (1967 production year)
Fisher body style number: 13817 (SS396 2-door sport coupe)
Final Assembly Plant: KAN (Kansas City)
Fisher Body Unit Number: 330
Line 3:
778 (Interior Trim Medium Turquoise Imitation Leather with bucket seats)
K-2 (Body color Emerald Turquoise)
Line 4:
Group 1 - No number precedes group 1:
W – Tinted Windshield
Group 2 - Preceded by the number 2:
L - 4-speed transmission [RPO M20]
G - Center console [RPO D55]
S - Rear antenna [RPO U73]
Group 5 – Preceded by the number 5:
